How to Choose the Right Lipstick for You

Have you ever felt something wrong with your lipstick?

Have you ever felt that the same lipstick looks great on your friends or models, but feels strange when you wear it?

The reason why you feel strange about your lipstick may be because you don’t know your lip type.

To find the lipstick that suits you, you need to use Lip Type Analysis to control the shade of color and shine.

This page suggests how to choose lipsticks using a lip type analysis checklist (light version) based on the theory of facial skeletal design analysis.

Why lipstick doesn’t suit you

There are two possible reasons why you feel that you don’t look good in lipstick.

Lipstick does not match your personal color.
Lipstick does not match your lip type.

On this page, we will talk about the second Lip Type.

For example, if your personal color type is Deep Winter, burgundy will suit you.

However, if you have small lips, you may feel uncomfortable wearing burgundy lipstick even if you are a deep winter.

The reason for the uncomfortable feeling is that burgundy is a contraction color and makes small lips look smaller.

To choose a lipstick that suits you, you need to know your personal color as well as your lip type.

Gently close your lips, check it out.

Step1 Width of mouth (Blue ① in the above figure)

Feminine

Lipsticks in light to mid-tones of color range are recommended
Avoid dark tone and matte types.
The darker matte types make smaller lips look even smaller.
For fluffy lips, light to medium tone and sheer or glossy types are good.

Curvy elegant types have plump lips, so a light color and glossy lips will look bland.

If you want to look sexy, darker sheer or glossy types are good.

If you want to look healthy, choose a sheer lipstick!

I do not recommend the matt type. Because it makes your lips look thinner.

How to use your weakest tones and textures

How to use dark or matte lipsticks

Why dark or matte lipsticks don’t suit you, even though they match your personal color?

Dark colors and matt textures have a contracting effect, making the lips appear smaller or thinner.

So, if you have small or thin lips, choosing a lipstick according to your personal color can be uncomfortable.

If your lip type is Feminine or Cute, and you use dark colors and matte textures, you can try two methods.

Apply lipstick>>> press with tissue>>> apply gloss.
Apply lipstick with the palm of the middle finger >>> apply gloss.

If you use a gloss to lighten a dark color or add shine to a matte lipstick, you can easily use a dark or matte lipstick.

How to use pale or glossy lipsticks

Why light colors or glossy lipsticks don’t suit you, even though they match your personal color?

Light colors and glossy textures have an inflating effect, making large or thick lips look larger or thicker.

So, if you have large or thick lips, choosing a lipstick according to your personal color can be uncomfortable.

If your lip type is, Gorgeous or Curvy elegant and you use light colors, lip gloss or glossy lipsticks, you can try two methods.

Apply a light colored lipstick or gloss to the middle of the lips in two or three places, as shown in the picture above.
Tighten the area around the corners of the mouth with a darker or matte lipstick or lip liner.

What is Lip Type Analysis?

The Lip Type Analysis is a method to determine the shade and texture of lipstick that suits you, based on the following criteria.

Width of the mouth
Aspect ratio of the lips
Tone of foundation.

Why is a Lip Type Analysis so important?

Many people choose their lipstick based on their personal color.

However, if you only choose your personal color, you may feel uncomfortable.

The reason for the discomfort is that it does not consider the effect of the color and texture and the lip type.

Lip type analysis is important because,

Light and pale colors are dilating colors, while glosses and pearls add dimension and plumpness to the lips.
Darker colors are contraction colors and the matte texture has a firming effect on the lips.

And if you choose a color without considering your lip type, it will make you feel uncomfortable.

In order to use the effects of lipstick color and texture to conquer your complexion and get closer to the lips you want, you need to know your lip type.
